Natural Mother of Pearl Gold Lip Shells for sale, Pinctada maxima,  for jewelry making and carving.  Our natural mother of pearl gold lip shells measure between 2 and 3 inches.   The Mother of Pearl is mainly used to decorate jewelry, musical instruments and furniture.  The outer layer is rough and some have calcium deposits and tiny holes, cracks and natural blemishes.  The interior of this shell is shiny and off white with golden highlights.

You will receive natural gold lip shells that look similar to those pictured.  No 2 will be identical.  They will vary in size, shape and coloring.

Pinctada maxima is a species of pearl oyster, a marine bivalve mollusk in the family Pteridae, the pearl oysters. There are two different color varieties: the Gold-lipped oyster and the Silver-lipped oyster. These bivalves are the largest pearl oysters in the world. They have a very strong inner shell layer composed of nacre, also known as "mother of pearl" and are important to the cultured pearl industry as they are cultivated to produce South Sea pearls.
