Authentic Eastern Pacific Giant Conch Shell for Sale,  Titanostrombus galeatus, a thick heavy true conch shell from the family Strombidae, hand selected out of our large inventory.  This Eastern Pacific giant conch shell measures approximately 7-1/2 inches long and 5-1/2 inches high. Some of the lips of our Pacific Giant Conch Shells have been machine edged to remove the natural chips along the edges of the shell.   It is heavy and thick with a brownish orange body and the edge of the lip is orange. The mouth opening is off white.  This shell was imported from Mexico.  Our giant conch shells are Real - Not Imitation.  They are beautiful but will have natural imperfections from living in the ocean and aging.

  Titanostrombus galeatus, or strombus galeatus, commonly known as the Eastern Pacific giant conch,  is a species of large sea snail in the family Strombidae, the true conchs and their allies.  It is an eastern Pacific species that can be found from the Gulf of California to Peru.  These shells were used as wind instruments by the ChavAn, an ancient civilization from the northern Andean highlands of Peru. They are still used for this purpose in the Andes, where they are known as pututu.  The shell of Titanostrombus galeatus is large, maximum size 8.97 inches and are commonly 5.46 inches.  It is very thick and heavy and has an oblong outline, with a short pointed spire that lacks spines and nodules and is often eroded.  Titanostrombus galeatus dwells on rocky, sandy bottoms near mangrove areas. It lives in depths from thee low tidemark to 15 m, but records go as deep as 30 m.
