How to Make a Seashell Sea Turtle Wall Plaque
Supplies Needed:
1) Unfinished Wood Sea Turtle Shape Plaque in size 10 inches to 20 inches. 1/8" or 1/4" Thick. (Available at Walmart or Hobby Lobby)
2) Glue gun or craft glue (Follow safety directions and age requirements.)
3) Bag of assorted natural seashells in sizes 1/2 inches up to 3 inches. (Our SKU #50-1-57-K; 63-3-46340k; or GL72)
4) Picture hanger for back of wood turtle.
5) Clear Spray Gloss Finish (Acrylic Sealer)
Instructions:
1) Attach the picture hanger to the up portion of the wood turtle.
2) Lay out a large portion of your shells and make small groups of shells that blend well together, remembering to use some shells with color. (Green turban shells, strawberry strombus, small pecten nobilis, purple drupa, murex, and clam shells). Keep a selection of tiny shells aside as you will need those to fill in the gaps left after you glue all the shells down.
3) Start at the top of the wood turtle and glue each of your shells together, making sure they touch each other, but not overlap.
4) Use the tiny umboniums, nassa, clams, snails and others to fill in the gaps between the larger shells and to make sure no wood shows.
5) Spray a coat of clear gloss finish to bring out the natural color of the shells and make it easier to keep dust off the plaque. Let it dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
6) Your plaque is now ready to be hung.
